Gunners 2 Castle Cary 0
Gunners played their first friendly of the season on Wednesday at South Cheriton against Castle Cary, a team they will meet again this season in the league. It has to said the Gunners looked rusty and never really got their passing game going on a very narrow pitch, despite this they dominated the first half with new signing Macauley Mactravers looking a real threat up front going close with several efforts but the game remained scoreless at half time. The second half continued with Gunners in control but they struggled to break down a resiliant Cary side, the moment of the match came when Mactravers shot was brilliantly turned onto the crossbar by the Cary keeper. With around 5 minutes left and game looking likely to remain level up popped right back Ollie Sproston to break the deadlock meeting Seamus Beard's corner to drill his shot high into the net. Cary nearly punished some hesitant defending straight from the restart but keeper Callum Cassell was out quickly to block Cary's only chance in the game. The game was made safe in the last minute with a twenty yard strike from Tom Farthing which nestled nicely in the corner of the net.
A good workout for the Gunners against a Cary side which kept battling for the whole game. Hopefully this game will have blown some of the cobwebs away as Gunners prepare to take on South Cheriton U13's on Monday night.
