What a difference a week makes! A full squad & no injuries apart from Ben who is still suffering from a sore foot, JT is back in goal & Shaner is back from his hols....16 boys to choose from against the Hammers. We have never beaten them in a League match, but in our last encounter we knocked them out of the High Holborne Shield so we knew today was going to be a tough match.
A completely different line up for the Panthers today & they settled down well passing the ball about & creating chances. Ilchester probably had the better chances in the 1st half but the boys were defending well under pressure. Talin very nearly put the boys ahead before half time but a fantastic tackle by Ilchester put the ball out for a corner. Half Time 0-0.
The first 10 minutes of the 2nd half were much the same but the Panthers started to push,creating more chances but not scoring that vital goal. We then made changes,put Glen on the left,Talin on the right & put James High up front with Ben.Attack after attack and at last the Panthers scored ! Ben Clark hitting the net from close range made it 1-0. The boys were well in control now and playing some good football, Glen & Talin making some good runs down the wing causing problems. It soon became 2-0...this time last seasons top scorer James High hit the net,again from close range.
The boys held on for a well deserved 3 points & the first win this season.
Man of the match went to Matthew (The Wall) Kinder !
But credit to all the boys especially those on the bench who did not play, they know their chance will come.
Next match Sunday 20th September....home to East Coker, the boys are well up for that one!!!
