Life in Division 1 could not have got off to a worse start! With 17 boys signed on this season we struggled to put a team together for our first match in Division 1. Things were made worse when Connor, who was replacing the missing JT in goal, got injured during the warm up, so Jack had to put on the gloves & go in goal. New signing Ben still has his foot injury & Shaner was sunning it up in the Canaries!! During the match Brad pulled up & had to come off, could things get any worse! With no pre-season friendlies this year the boys looked a little rusty in the first half, we had a couple of chances but couldn’t put them away. Somerton always looked dangerous going forward & it was no surprise when they took the lead. 1-0 to Somerton at half time.
With all our subs injured we could not make any changes for the second half so the boys battled on. Somerton scored 2 quick goals in the 2nd half which killed us off, heads dropped & the boys knew that Division 1 was going to be tough. Somerton scored 2 more goals to win 5-0. Credit to new signing Brandon who won man of the match.
Next week Ilchester Hammers visit Barwick Rec,we have never beaten them in any league match but after knocking them out of the High Holborne last year they will surely be looking for revenge. We will need to improve on today’s performance if we want to get some points on the board & hopefully we will have a full & fit squad available!
